Cinomisir, Mt. Arashiyama

Filled with an abundance of nature, Mt. Arashiyama, known as Ci-nomi-sir (our – prayer – mountain) to the Kamikawa Ainu, was worshiped as a holy place that linked human and god. Decorated vessels and skulls of the animals that were said to be the embodiment of the gods after their souls had returned to heaven were left here. The area is now home to the Ainu Culture Forest and Folklore Village a collection of restored Ainu buildings, such as a residence and altar. The Cinomisir Kamuynomi is held here every spring to pray for happiness and peace.
